ACA Supports Cashew Industry Association of Ghana (CIAG), to Advocate for the Value Addition Segment of the Cashew Industry in Ghana

Over a series of meetings, the African Cashew Alliance has indicated support to the Cashew Industry Association of Ghana (CIAG), in advocacy for the cashew value addition segment in Ghana.

Established in 2012, CIAG is a private sector organization that collaborates with all agencies working in the interest of cashew including local and foreign partners as well as public institutions, to promote the interest of the cashew sector in Ghana. Together with CIAG, Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI), a joint ministerial technical committee has been formed to thoroughly deliberate on finding solutions for the existing problems being faced by the cashew sector in Ghana, based on existing policies. The committee identified insufficient RCN for processors and the implementation of existing policies as major problems in the cashew industry. These they said were as a result of unlawful RCN trading activities at the cashew farm gates.  After deliberations, the technical committee tasked the Ghana Export Promotion Agency (GEPA) and the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) to come up with a proposed set of regulations for cashew exports to sanitize the industry to some extent.  This they did in follow up meetings and members of CIAG were entreated to further deliberate on them prior to publication and implementation.

ACA is honored to be part of this committee and hopeful for a more competitive cashew industry in Ghana.
