TOR-MTP Expert on Cashew processing equipment, selection, operation, and maintenance

Background

 

 The African Cashew Alliance (ACA) has been working on developing learning solutions for the industry.  As such we have developed several eLearning and in-class training programs, which are being rolled out. We have also fully taken over the Master Training Program (MTP) from the Market-Oriented Value Chains for Jobs & Growth in the ECOWAS Region (MOVE/GIZ) to enable us to consolidate the learning programs as well as enhance the content. 14 editions have been held already in which 1,036 experts have been trained between 2014 and 2022. To prepare for and deliver the 15th Edition and 16th Edition in 2022 and 2023, the ACA is seeking the services of qualified experts to serve in the role of is seeking the services of qualified experts to serve in the role of Expert on Cashew processing equipment, selection, operation and maintenance for the MTP.

The MTP aims to:

  • Create a pool of qualified experts in the cashew value chain in West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, also reaching out to other West-African countries - e.g.  Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Mali); and
  • Reach out to East African Countries;
  • Facilitate the regional exchange of knowledge, learning and innovation.

Assignment description:

This assignment will cover training tasks on Processing Machines Selection, Operations and Maintenance in the first session of the Master Training Program Edition 15 and Edition 16. The expert will be expected to share all relevant information on the subject and should be able to link theory to practice.

During the program, participants will visit a processing unit in Sampa. Therefore, the Expert's presentation will be expected to cover content and adopt an approach that helps participants to easily relate what they have learnt in theory to what they see on the field.

 

Required profile of Expert

  • Processing Engineering background with at least 5 years’ experience in industrial processing of cashew in Ghana.
  • Sound knowledge of Processing machines in the West African subregion and associated challenges.
  • Sound knowledge of the cashew value chain
  • Ability to train and communicate well in English and at least one local Ghanaian language
  • Ability to submit oral and written report on schedule.

Tasks for Edition 15 and Edition 16

  1. Preparation and re-design of the Topics on Cashew processing equipment, selection, operation and maintenance, based on Adult Learning Principles, lessons learnt from previous editions and training needs of participants.
  2. Attend debriefings during the training sessions with the resource persons, resource and logistics team and managements of ACA.
  3. Deliver detailed reports on each training session providing details on the training materials development topics and the outcomes; and make recommendations for subsequent sessions.
  4. Assist lead facilitators and other resource persons during intersession activities for the participants
  5. Participate in the 5-day training sessions and assist the resource persons and teams to ensure training is delivered to the utmost satisfaction of participants.

 

Expected results:

  • A training report is delivered at the end of the session. 
  • At the end of the session, participants will be better equipped on Processing Machines, Operations and Maintenance. 
  • They would understand the success factors of the cashew nut processing companies related to machines and equipment.
  • Participants learn more about how to operate and carry out maintenance of cashew processing equipment.
  • In addition, all questions related to the theme presented are answered and participants are able to use the precepts taught

 

Application process

Interested parties (both individuals, consortiums and organisations) should send in their applications. For individuals, CV/Resumes and a cover letter detailing all their experiences and qualifications relevant to the tasks described. For organisations, brief proposal detailing the CV/Resume of the personnel proposed for the tasks. All received applications will be reviewed and scored based on the required profile of the Training Materials Development expert as described above.

In Addition, all applicants must send as a separate document, a brief financial proposal detailing their approach to the tasks, the number of days required for each task and the total days as well as their quoted gross daily rate. Travel and per diem expenses will be covered separately and should not be included in the proposal.
