Call for Application: Water Well Construction

The ACA Secretariat invites applications from service providers who are interested in a water well construction.

Terms of Reference: Water Well Construction

Country: Cote d'Ivoire

Background

The Competitive Cashew initiative (ComCashew) aims to strengthen the competitiveness of African Cashew processors to reduce poverty amongst small-scale farmers in its project countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mozambique and Sierra-Leonne. The African Cashew Alliance (ACA) an implementing partner of ComCashew has been mandated to deliver activities of ComCashew. ACA is, therefore, seeking the services providers to undertake the tasks described in the section below, to realize the objective of “Improvement of processing and employee environment to effectively alleviate the economic hardships and health conditions of factories and workers put at risk by the COVID 19 pandemic”.

Consultancy description and tasks

The specifications are as follows:

  • Construction of a borehole in the PLANHANKRO community Djédou (Botro) to provide quality drinking water to members of the community (LOT1) including a water pump, building of toilets and showers, and installation of taps and pipes.
  • Construction of a borehole in NAMOUEKOUMGBA community of Djédou (Botro) to provide quality drinking water to members of the community (LOT2) including a water pump, building of toilets and showers, and installation of taps and pipes.

PLANHANKRO (60 farmers) and NAMOUEKOUMGBA (40 farmers) located in the region of Djédou (Botro) 40 km from Bouaké a well for each community is constructed to ensure access to water for the above communities.

These villages do not have access to water directly within the village. The villagers are forced to walk several kilometers on foot to fetch water from the rivers. This task is usually given to women and children, which disrupts their access to education.

These two villages represent more than 150 families or about 1,000 people. The installation of a well in the center of the village allows the population to have very easy access to water and therefore allows them to have better personal hygiene because the access to water will be regular and close to their homes. Therefore, the project also includes the construction of public toilets, showers, and washbasins near the well.

To stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus in rural areas, it is important that the village populations have simple and close access to water for regular cleaning of hands and clothes, in order to compensate for the lack of alcohol, masks, disinfectant gel.
